5/9/2017 0 Comments Tinker CadYesterday, when we began using Tinker Cad, it seemed simple at first. The features seemed easy to use and quite user friendly. However, when I actually started using it, it became way more complicated than I had originally thought. For me, someone who is usually good at computer programs and softwares, it was difficult to figure out how to do things. I had a hard time figuring out how to get the image in my head onto the computer. The controls for moving things around were somewhat unnecessarily complicated for me, and the program was overall not as simple as it had portrayed to be. On the flip side, this program is very cool, and is useful to those who know how to use it. The instructions and demos were given clearly, but I was still not able to grasp the full functions and understand how to use the program. If I were able to more deeply learn how to use this program, then Tinker Cad would have a higher rating in my opinion.

Technology has become present in the lives of the majority of the world, and has become an essential in our way of life. Though technology has some down sides, it has played a huge role in forming the urbanized world we live in today. With the use of technology, we have discovered new things, people, and ideas. Sharing our ideas and thoughts has never been easier, and communicating with someone in a country across the globe has become as easy as a simple press of a button. The use of technology has sparked the minds of people everywhere, and most everyone is able to benefit from it. Despite its downsides, I believe the pros of technology definitely outweigh the cons. The world we know today would not be nearly the same if it weren't for technology. Not only has technology already revolutionized our world, but it is continuing to evolve to further simplify life and our needs. Technology is improving the quality of life of people everywhere, and is becoming more and more known. As an increasing number of people gain access to technology, they are introduced to a whole new world with endless possibilities.
In this satirical skit, the author is putting satire on the obsessive use of technology in today's world. The grandfather is trying to take advantage of the blackout so that he can tell his grandson a story, but all Brandon is focused on is technology. This satirical skit was effective, because it made me realize how engrossed the people of today are in our technology and gadgets. When we don't have it, all we think about his what we'll do when we get the technology back, and this keeps us from appreciating the other things of this world such as nature, board games, and just talking and hanging out with people in person.
In both "The Wave" and "Animal Farm", language is used by leaders to manipulate their followers. The leaders, Mr. Ross and the pigs, were able to twist the minds of their followers to make them think and live differently than they usually would. Using their language, Mr. Ross and the pigs made their words sound convincing enough to sway the students and animals to follow them. A method of propaganda is also used, which is the bandwagon tactic. Mr. Ross made The Wave seem like a thing that everyone should be a part of, thus persuading other students to become members. Much alike, the pigs persuaded the other animals that the Animal Farm and Animalism were the ideal place and community to be a part of. The students and animals were brain washed and manipulated by their leaders' words because they wanted to feel like a part of something great; a community. They wanted the feeling of importance and value, so they followed the leaders that could give them those things. Even though Mr. Ross and the pigs were dictating rules to the students and animals, they saw past it and only had their eyes fixed on the outcome and paradise they hoped it would be.
3/6/2017 0 Comments WAR IS...War is destruction and death. Men and women fighting for what they believe is right, but killing people and families in the process.
War can be a dividing force, or it can be a uniting force. What we don't realize is that war has a bigger impact on lives than we think. War can force innocent civilians out of their homes, war can scar children with the exposure of death and destruction, war can completely tear families apart. Regardless of what we think about it, war kills people, along with their hopes and dreams. Not only can war end a person's life, but can destroy a person's future. War changes us by altering the path of our futures. It gives us new opportunities, but also takes away the opportunities we had always been planning to take. War changes us by flipping our perspectives on life, and it can make things seem more important and some more worthless. 2/23/2017 0 Comments COF VISIT RESPONSEThe Circle of Friends visit was very eye opening to me. The biggest thing that stood out to me in this visit was whenever Mr. Humphries pointed out that I feel we can easily accept special needs kids, then why is it so hard for us to accept the normal everybody day people around us? This really opened my eyes to the world and how I see people, and it was also very useful in youth group later last night. I shared what Mr. Humphries said with my group at church, and they also had their eyes opened to how they treat others.
2/10/2017 1 Comment WOULD YOU WANT TO BE HOMESCHOOLED? Being homeschooled gives today’s youth daily opportunities incomparable to those of public or private schoolers, and flexibility beyond comprehension. Homeschooled students develop valuable skills, such as discipline, commitment, and passion, all of which are crucial to success. Students who pursue an education at home enjoy countless benefits, and can live a life of more freedom. Students have the self-rule to study “what they want, when they want, for as long as they want” when they are homeschooled (Shaw par. 4). Parents also have the chance to tailor their child’s learning to match the style they can benefit from the most. Students are able to choose the way they learn, and can easily put more emphasis on subjects they struggle with. This way of schooling gives the parent not only a one-on-one experience with their child, but the opportunity to show them that “learning is not boring, but exciting” (“The Benefits…” par. 5). Kids who are taught at home have the ability to construct a weekly time plan, allowing them to live “without the constraint of a traditional classroom schedule” (“The Benefits…” par. 9). Working at their own pace, learners are inspired to grasp the material without the restriction of their grade level. They are able to work ahead or slow down on the subjects they choose, and become more accustomed to their own way of learning. There is no need to work around busy days; instead, there is free rein to go “exploring and adventuring” through life, and have “unique experiences” unavailable to kids stuck in a classroom (Spooner par. 7). Most families place importance on their beliefs and values, and often think of them as a huge part of who they are. When a child is homeschooled, their parents have the ability to incorporate these beliefs and values into their education. Without the “peer pressure, competition, boredom, and bullies” of public school, students can “act and think the way they want,” with no need to worry about judgement. They are able to thrive in their own world, where they don’t have to fear “adolescent trends and dangerous experimentation” (Shaw par. 6). Parents can build meaningful relationships with their child, and follow their interests, passions, and strengths. As a homeschooled student, you can surround yourself with people you know, love, and trust, without the consternation that comes with the crazy world we live in. In today’s society, homeschooling is becoming increasingly popular. More and more children across America are choosing to experience the self-determination and many benefits of pursuing their educations at home. With the ability to choose what and how they learn, these students are becoming more independent, self-directed, confident, and overall more successful leaders. Homeschooling lets today’s youth be themselves and live their lives in the freedom they’ve always dreamed of. Works Cited Shaw, Isabel. "Homeschooling Pros and Cons." FamilyEducation.
