2/23/2017 0 Comments COF VISIT RESPONSEThe Circle of Friends visit was very eye opening to me. The biggest thing that stood out to me in this visit was whenever Mr. Humphries pointed out that I feel we can easily accept special needs kids, then why is it so hard for us to accept the normal everybody day people around us? This really opened my eyes to the world and how I see people, and it was also very useful in youth group later last night. I shared what Mr. Humphries said with my group at church, and they also had their eyes opened to how they treat others.

Being homeschooled gives today’s youth daily opportunities incomparable to those of public or private schoolers, and flexibility beyond comprehension. Homeschooled students develop valuable skills, such as discipline, commitment, and passion, all of which are crucial to success. Students who pursue an education at home enjoy countless benefits, and can live a life of more freedom. Students have the self-rule to study “what they want, when they want, for as long as they want” when they are homeschooled (Shaw par. 4). Parents also have the chance to tailor their child’s learning to match the style they can benefit from the most. Students are able to choose the way they learn, and can easily put more emphasis on subjects they struggle with. This way of schooling gives the parent not only a one-on-one experience with their child, but the opportunity to show them that “learning is not boring, but exciting” (“The Benefits…” par. 5). Kids who are taught at home have the ability to construct a weekly time plan, allowing them to live “without the constraint of a traditional classroom schedule” (“The Benefits…” par. 9). Working at their own pace, learners are inspired to grasp the material without the restriction of their grade level. They are able to work ahead or slow down on the subjects they choose, and become more accustomed to their own way of learning. There is no need to work around busy days; instead, there is free rein to go “exploring and adventuring” through life, and have “unique experiences” unavailable to kids stuck in a classroom (Spooner par. 7). Most families place importance on their beliefs and values, and often think of them as a huge part of who they are. When a child is homeschooled, their parents have the ability to incorporate these beliefs and values into their education. Without the “peer pressure, competition, boredom, and bullies” of public school, students can “act and think the way they want,” with no need to worry about judgement. They are able to thrive in their own world, where they don’t have to fear “adolescent trends and dangerous experimentation” (Shaw par. 6). Parents can build meaningful relationships with their child, and follow their interests, passions, and strengths. As a homeschooled student, you can surround yourself with people you know, love, and trust, without the consternation that comes with the crazy world we live in. In today’s society, homeschooling is becoming increasingly popular. More and more children across America are choosing to experience the self-determination and many benefits of pursuing their educations at home. With the ability to choose what and how they learn, these students are becoming more independent, self-directed, confident, and overall more successful leaders. Homeschooling lets today’s youth be themselves and live their lives in the freedom they’ve always dreamed of. Works Cited Shaw, Isabel. "Homeschooling Pros and Cons." FamilyEducation.
