Technology has become present in the lives of the majority of the world, and has become an essential in our way of life. Though technology has some down sides, it has played a huge role in forming the urbanized world we live in today. With the use of technology, we have discovered new things, people, and ideas. Sharing our ideas and thoughts has never been easier, and communicating with someone in a country across the globe has become as easy as a simple press of a button. The use of technology has sparked the minds of people everywhere, and most everyone is able to benefit from it. Despite its downsides, I believe the pros of technology definitely outweigh the cons. The world we know today would not be nearly the same if it weren't for technology. Not only has technology already revolutionized our world, but it is continuing to evolve to further simplify life and our needs. Technology is improving the quality of life of people everywhere, and is becoming more and more known. As an increasing number of people gain access to technology, they are introduced to a whole new world with endless possibilities.

In this satirical skit, the author is putting satire on the obsessive use of technology in today's world. The grandfather is trying to take advantage of the blackout so that he can tell his grandson a story, but all Brandon is focused on is technology. This satirical skit was effective, because it made me realize how engrossed the people of today are in our technology and gadgets. When we don't have it, all we think about his what we'll do when we get the technology back, and this keeps us from appreciating the other things of this world such as nature, board games, and just talking and hanging out with people in person.
In both "The Wave" and "Animal Farm", language is used by leaders to manipulate their followers. The leaders, Mr. Ross and the pigs, were able to twist the minds of their followers to make them think and live differently than they usually would. Using their language, Mr. Ross and the pigs made their words sound convincing enough to sway the students and animals to follow them. A method of propaganda is also used, which is the bandwagon tactic. Mr. Ross made The Wave seem like a thing that everyone should be a part of, thus persuading other students to become members. Much alike, the pigs persuaded the other animals that the Animal Farm and Animalism were the ideal place and community to be a part of. The students and animals were brain washed and manipulated by their leaders' words because they wanted to feel like a part of something great; a community. They wanted the feeling of importance and value, so they followed the leaders that could give them those things. Even though Mr. Ross and the pigs were dictating rules to the students and animals, they saw past it and only had their eyes fixed on the outcome and paradise they hoped it would be.
